June is the season to be here, when days are warm with clear, blue skies. Visit the various stupas and monasteries around and check out the famous thangka paintings.
It’s green all around, and the crowds are few, so rent a bike and go explore. Visit the Sahakari Spice Farm in Ponda, where you get to feast on organic fare and return with your flavourful stack.
Lahaul–Spiti, Himachal Pradesh
The high mountain passes open early in June, giving access to this beautiful mountain desert. Visit the ancient monasteries of Tabo and Ki, and the Pin Valley National Park to spot the rare snow leopard. Those in good shape can camp by the brilliant blue waters of Chandratal.
Go white-water rafting before the season ends. Apart from getting your thrill on River Kali amid class 3 rapids, go kayaking, canyoning (rappelling down a waterfall) and mountain biking. Also, visit the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary to spot black panthers, sambhar deer, bison, Malabar giant squirrels, giant iguanas, king cobras or even tigers.
Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand
Colourful blooms begin carpeting this park with the melting of the snow; expect to catch species such as golden lilies.
